CSS3 is everything we used to do wrong

    CSS3 is everything
    we used to do wrong

Many developers used to believe that class-free, lean markup and descendant selectors were the answer. Many developers still build websites for a single resolution, or a small range of devices. However, these practices are now being questioned. In an era of, media queries or mobile/device sniffing, semantic class names, deep selectors, hacks vs conditional comments and css driven fluid grid layouts where do we stand? What is best practice web development today? Russ Weakley will explore these topics and more… or possibly less…

    Russ Weakley

Russ has worked as a web designer for over 20 years. His expertise covers graphic design, interface design, site architecture and standards based development especially in the area of HTML/CSS. Russ chairs the Web Standards Group which was set up to assist web developers learn about new technologies and accessibility issues. Russ has produced a series of widely acclaimed CSS-based tutorials as well as a book, "Teach Yourself CSS in TenMinutes".

HTML5 and Silverlight: a love story

HTML5 and Silverlight: a love story

All around the web, developers, bloggers and lunatics are drawing battle lines between HTML5 and Silverlight. One to rule them all? Tatham 'Tats' Oddie and Justin 'JTango' Taylor have a very different idea and they're here to spread a message of peace. In the space of an hour and using a real world example, they'll show you that one doesn't have to exclude the other and that it really is a case of 'it depends' when deciding which technology stack to harness. Even better, they'll show that both technologies can coexist in harmony rather than behaving like children in the school yard. Warning: Please check your prior preconceptions at the door, they may not apply here.

    Tatham Oddie

Tatham is a four time Microsoft awarded Most Valuable Professional and regular presenter at conferences and events throughout Australia, New Zealand and North America. As a Principal Consultant with Readify he works with businesses to better utilise their technology investments and develop their teams. His technical focus lies around harnessing the heterogeneous environment of networks, devices and software clients we like to call 'the web' for both fun and profit. http://tath.am or @tathamoddie

    Justin Taylor

Justin is a developer in a committed relationship with WPF, though he more and more frequently finds himself partaking in secret dalliances with Silverlight. As much as he enjoys doing this for his own personal amusement, the icing on the cake is that as a Senior Developer at Readify he actually gets paid to do it as well. Furthermore, people seem to be interested in his opinion on such issues, which is great news because it's something he's only too happy to give. He blogs at http://blog.jtango.net and rambles as @jtango18

Making the Web easy again with WebMatrix and Razor

    Making the Web easy
    again with WebMarix and Razor

Remember the good old days when no one chastised you for not writing unit tests, design patterns were for wall paper and code behind was the code you left on your old PC? Scripting up a bit of Classic ASP was fun, you just whacked in a few angle brackets and FTP'd your file right onto your production site and you were done. Since then ASP.Net has become a massive framework, writing tests and using design patterns has become a part of normal development and the job has become really quite difficult. Well I want to show you how two new releases from Microsoft, called Razor and Web Matrix are here to make building dynamic websites fun and especially easy again. You'll learn how to use the new Razor syntax to add some dynamic content to your site and see how cool WebMatrix is for writing Razor, deploying your site and also getting traffic reports from your site.

    Philip Beadle

Phil has been working on DotNetNuke since the project was started way back in 2002! Philip loves to drive the quality of DotNetNuke by automating processes and testing. Philip started to work for DotNetNuke Corp in December 2009 and is loving working on his pet project innovating in the testing and build process side of the engineering team. Philip's motto is, if you can automate it you can improve it :). Philip's other passion is writing music with the awesome Ableton Live software, be careful not to ask about this unless you have a few hours to put aside.

    Chasing the evolving web:
    things you need to know
to be a modern web developer

It's been a long time since we've seen browsers evolving at the rate which they currently are with Microsoft, Mozilla and Google releasing preview versions of their future browser rolling every few months, not every few years. Readify Senior Developer and Internet Explorer Development MVP Aaron Powell will introduce some handy tools and libraries like Modernizr, HTML5Boilerplate and others that a modern Web Developer should know about

    Aaron Powell

By day the man in the hat is Aaron Powell, Senior Developer and Technical Specialist (Web) with Readify. By night he is a Microsoft Internet Explorer (Development) MVP and contributor on several popular open source projects such as Umbraco CMS and FunnelWeb and crusader against poorly written HTML, miss-targeted CSS selectors and ugly JavaScript.
